City Council Honors Glendale!

Friday, July 31, 2009

Glendale Altrusans were recently honored for their support of Glendale Public Library and the third annual One Book / One Glendale citywide reading event. The Club donated funds as well as Altrusa Blue re-usable book bags for the event.

After the City Council presented the commendation to Barbara Winsor (Club Vice President), Cindy Cleary, Director of Libraries, gave a beautiful speech thanking Altrusa for their continued support of Glendale Public Library.

The event is intended to promote the value of reading and city unity. This year's book is Shanhai Girls, by Lisa See. The author will be part of a Meet n' Greet on October 28 at the city's main library.

District Service Bulletin June 2009

If you're reading this, you're probably one of the 340 Altrusans who elected to receive an e-DSB.

By now, all 541 District Eleven Altrusans should have received their DSB -- via email and U.S. Mail.

If you received a hardcopy, you may notice some smudges -- don't worry, those are just my blood, sweat, and tears!

Contact me if you, or someone you know (1) didn't receive a DSB, (2) wants to change the delivery method, or (3) needs to be added to/deleted from the roster.

Between now and the next DSB issue, there is lot's going on within our District. Please be sure to let me know so I can post to our DSBlog:
  • Summer Travels
  • Club Events / Activities
  • Local Recognition

I need to draw special attention to Indian Wells Valley. Among all the District Eleven Clubs -- a whopping 88% of their membership elected to receive an e-DSB! Whoo-Hoo!

Governor's Message

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

I want to thank everyone who attended this year's conference in Bishop, especially District Eleven Past Governor Carol Latham, for her article outlining this year's grand event, as well as all the members of Altrusa Interational Inc., Indian Wells Valley and Altrusa International Inc. of the Eastern Sierra for a JOB WELL DONE!

Planning sessions were well organized and much was accomplished. All of your hard work paid off. Thank You to Conference Co-chairs Debby Brickey and Trish Schlichting; you both were on top of things at all times and looking out for each other. You truly set an example of teamwork. A special Thank You, too, to Andrea Shallcross for all of her extra help wth the Governor's reception.

The next two years will be exciting for all of us. Service and Literacy Projects, Membership and workshops are among the things that will bring District Eleven clubs and members together to create an esprit de corps.

We'll be sharing dates for the Area Workshops. Please remember that in addition to the time District Officers spend in preparing for these workshops, it is the interaction of clubs that makes them successful and valuable. Please make every effort to attend. If you are unavailable for the workshop in your area, consider attending one in another area.

I look forward to working with our newly elected Board, a group of dedicated leaders. I am also very excited by the positive energy demonstrated by our new Chairmen. Remember that we are here for every club and every Altrusan.

My theme is "Share the Knowledge - Serve with Power". It is up to each of us to "Share the Knowledge" of Altrusa. If we do, we will see our numbers increase. And if we "Serve with Power" in our communities, we can make a difference. Here's to our continued good works.

I am looking forward to geting to know each of you and to sharing our love for Altrusa.

Yours in Altrusa - Ann
